Basic Needs Resources
Below are resources that can hopefully help locate assistance if you or someone you know is in need. Your results may vary.
UH has a subscription to the Find Help database, which lists non-UH service provider options based on your zipcode.
This includes basic need categories of Food, Housing, Goods, Transit, Health, Money, Care, Education, Work, and Legal. It includes a function to refer someone else to a provider and monitor the situation, as well as provide feedback to the database operators about specific provider issues.

Government subsidy of your personal groceries, called food stamps, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), and EBT (Hawaii Electronic Benefit Transfer), are available to many people on GA salaries, which are usually low enough for eligibility. Paperwork and application screening might take some time, so it is advisable to apply early if you anticipate wanting any amount of this funding.
