"I believe in the transformational power of the labor movement. I have been fighting to get Graduate Assistants collective bargaining rights for the past few years.  I believe that unions are at their best when they are centered on the workers.  You are the union."

Vice Chair: Tim zhu (Natural resources and environmental management)

"As a graduate assistant at UH, I've been lucky to have great advisers and a generally positive experience. However, I have also had to deal with low pay and cost of living, and have had to listen to many of the egregious issues my coworkers have had to deal with without the power of a union supporting them. The right to unionize and have greater ownership over their work and working conditions is simply one of the greatest tools working people have had throughout history, and graduate assistants undoubtedly deserve this right."

"In the short term, we need as many union cards signed before our bill hits the governor's desk to demonstrate our numbers. However, we are not merely circulating a petition here. Whether the governor vetoes our bill or not, our end goal should still be an organized workforce on campus that can be activated en masse, in the form of a recognized union with full bargaining rights or some other informal but equally robust structure."

"Short term goal: visibility & campus-wide support for the union, a clear/concise agenda & demands to move forward with organizing; addressing on-campus sexual harassment. Long term goal: horizontal collaboration, effectively co-organizing with other orgs, safe/secure working conditions for all UH workers"

charter, convention and bylaws chair: JOY ENOMOTO (PACIFIC ISLAND STUDIES)

"As a former union member and as someone with a long history of supporting union labor for the over 20 years, I truly understand the purpose of having clear and well thought out union bylaws for union members. We cannot build a strong house without a strong foundation and solid frame."
